What has changed

VeraTracer Desktop is pre-release. This page tracks what has landed, what is planned, and what we have deliberately left out.

1.0

PlannedDecember 13, 2026

First public release, macOS only. Windows and Linux builds follow once the packaging and signing pipeline covers them.

0.2.0

Pre-releaseAugust 2026

The build that turned the prototype into something you can do real work in. Before this, every file lived in browser state — nothing round-tripped to disk.

Added

  • Real filesystem access: open a folder as a workspace, read and write files on disk, and save where you expect.
  • Recent files and folders, surfaced in the empty state and the command palette.
  • Project lifecycle: a welcome screen with New, Open, Recents and Sample, and the last project reopened on launch.
  • Command palette (⌘⇧P) over every editor action, and quick open (⌘P) over workspace files.
  • Find and replace in the editor.
  • Settings that persist to disk — theme, editor font size, tab size, line wrapping, auto-save, default data folder and pane layout.
  • Light, dark and system themes, including the editor's syntax colours.
  • A stop button for a run in progress, and live diagnostics routed into the Problems panel.
  • Unsaved-changes guards on tab close, file delete and window close.
  • Window size and position restored between launches.

Changed

  • Native menu items are wired to real actions instead of being decorative.
  • Keyboard shortcuts are owned by the OS menu, so ⌘S, ⌘O, ⌘N and ⌘W behave as they do in any other app.
  • Rename uses the inline editor already used by the explorer, replacing browser prompt dialogs.
  • Run failures land in the Problems panel rather than an alert box.
  • Result panels stay empty until a real run — sample numbers only appear in the sample workspace.

Removed

  • “Open to Side”, which was a duplicate of Open rather than a split view.

Not on the roadmap yet

These come up often enough to be worth stating plainly. They are not being worked on, and we would rather say so than imply they are close:

  • Split editor and multi-window
  • Git integration
  • Extensions and LSP
  • External file-change watching

If one of these blocks you, tell us — that is how things get reprioritised.
