Free on your machine. Priced when it leaves it.

VeraTracer Desktop is free and needs no account. Anything that runs on our infrastructure will be paid — we just have not set those numbers yet, and would rather leave them blank than guess.

Questions

Is Desktop free forever, or free for now?

It is free to use at launch, with the full checkpoint model and no account. We have not set a date or a condition on that changing, and if it ever does we will say so here rather than quietly.

Why is there no price for Cloud?

Because it has not been decided. Hosted runs are still in development and pricing is one of the open questions we list on the hosted runs page. Publishing a number we might change would be worse than publishing none.

Do I need an account to use VeraTracer?

Not for Desktop. It opens folders on your disk and runs locally, so there is nothing to sign in to. An account only becomes relevant once you want a run to happen somewhere other than your own machine.

Where does my data go?

For a local run, nowhere. The desktop app reads and writes files on your own disk and does not upload your data. Hosted runs will necessarily read from sources the server can reach — that difference is set out in the hosted runs documentation.
